Laura Desiano
Content Writer & Poet
About Me
writer. editor. poet.
I am an experienced content creator, copy writer and published poet based in San Francisco. My experience as a content creator spans many industries including women's apparel, home decor, education, health care, and more. Working in the industry for over 10 years, I am a strong addition to any creative team.

As a poet I have published dozens of poems in online and print literary magazines and anthologies. I have also published a chapbook poetry, Braiding the Storm in 2012. My work as a poet informs my work as a copy writer, giving me a strong ear for the prosody of language as well as a knack for brevity when necessary.

Poetry Inside Out, a Creative Writing Workbook
Imagine being taught to write poetry by some of the world's greatest poets--Basho, the Japanese haiku-master; Dante, author of the Inferno; Spaniard Federico Garcia Lorca; and others. That's just what young readers do with Poetry Inside Out. The book shows them, step-by-step, how to translate twelve poems from seven different languages, and in the process children learn poetic concepts like similes and metaphors while being inspired to create their own masterpieces.

Braiding the Storm, Poetry Chapbook
My chapbook of poetry, Braiding the Storm, was published in 2012 by Finishing Line Press. A coming-of-age collection, this book tackles aging, sexuality, adulthood, and politics. One reviewer summed it up thusly: "every single poem seems to dig into me and leave me breathless."

Weave Magazine, Founding Editor
For six years I served as founding editor of Weave, a literary journal publishing poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and more. I oversaw each issue from start to finish, selecting pieces from hundreds of submissions, managing subscriptions, promoting each issue, and organizing issue launch readings.
